There are Some Kick Ass People in this World

This is a totally personal post so if you’re not in the mood for real I suggest skipping past.

My aunt, uncle and cousins were driving to the airport at the end of their vacation and a tanker truck jackknifed and hit em. Car was on fire right beside the tanker, my cousins were trapped inside and my aunt and uncle were all smashed up, tons of broken bones. They weren’t in any position to get my cousins out themselves. One of my cousins was unconscious, the other was trapped but otherwise ok. A construction crew working nearby pulled them out, fire all around them. Apparently the car exploded within a minute of them getting my cousins free. I thought that ish only happened in movies. I couldn’t believe the pictures of their car when I saw it in a news report, it was completely crushed, burned to a crisp and totally unrecognizable.

One of my cousins is in a coma, my aunt is banged up but physically ok, my uncle is pretty messed up and has some surgeries in his immediate future.

Update: My cousin is out of her coma and while she still has a long recovery ahead all signs thus far look really positive. She’s a tough kid

I feel horrible for my family but at the same time I’m seriously in awe that so many people risked their lives to save strangers. From the looks of things my cousins would probably be dead if it weren’t for that construction crew, and if the car had exploded while they were still working to free my cousins they could have died too. Holy fuck it puts a huge shot of faith in humanity back in me. I dunno if I would be brave enough to run into a fire to save strangers. But they did.

How do I even thank someone for doing that? The words just aren’t enough.
